Heart Medications
There are many different types of heart disease
medication when it comes to preventing or treating
this disease. The following is a basic overview of
some of the drugs that are available and used, explaining
what they are as well as how they help.
Heart Medications - Aspirin
- it is quite
likely that if you have had a heart attack, your doctor
will have probably recommended that you take aspirin on a
regular basis to reduce your risks of having another
one.
Heart Medications - Nitrates - is a
form of drug that works by relaxing the blood vessels of
the body. This helps to ease chest pains like angina.
Nitroglycerin is one type of nitrate that is commonly
used for those with heart
disease.
Heart Medications - Beta
blockers - are another type of drug
that are useful for helping those with heart disease.
Beta blockers work by slowing down the heart beat. This
alleviates high blood pressure, reduces chest pain and
prevents heart attacks.
Heart Medications - Calcium channel blocking
drugs - are also given
to patients with heart disease. Like nitrates, calcium
channel blockers help the body’s blood vessels to relax,
which helps those with high blood pressure and chest pain
to feel some form of relief.
Heart Medications - Thrombolytic
agents - they are used to help
break up blood clots that are present in advanced cases
of coronary artery heart disease. It is of major benefit
to alleviating the condition.
Heart Medications - Blood cholesterol lowering
drugs - the medical
profession have consistently stated that people who have
a level of cholesterol that is lower than 150 are
considered safe from a heart attack. For that reason, a
healthy diet coupled with cholesterol reducing drugs and a
regular exercise program can be one of the most effective
ways of reducing pain and risks associated with heart
disease.
Heart Medications - Diuretics -
are a type of ‘water pill’ that lessen fluids present in
the body by creating frequent urination. These pills are
useful in eliminating high blood pressure which can
seriously increase the risk of mortality when heart
disease is present.
Now that you know the different types of drugs
available when treating heart disease and its various
symptoms, you’ll be better suited to understanding your
options when talking with your Doctor or Cardiologist. Do
not start taking any type of medication without first
discussing it with your doctor. Your health is your
responsibility, so be sure to be cautious and
preventative when it comes to the health of your
heart.
